Q: The Dream Salon Approach to Dreams:

The Dream Salon approach is that dreams are multi-facited, and work on many levels of our psyche, mind, emotions and life experience. While we don’t always seek to “extract” a meaning or oracle from a dream, our experience has been working with dreams as part of our creative life practice has allowed meaning and depth to emerge from them, often in subtle, unexpected ways that can be quite profound. We also recognize there is imaginative material that can emerge not from sleep dreams but in-between or liminal states (between sleeping and waking) or what might be called day dreams.

Magic Temple Arts is pleased to offer a spring 2024 session of our 6-week Dream Salon Workshop! This interactive course, inspired by and developed for creatives of all types, explores ways to fuel our creative works in waking life, both with any sleeping dreams remembered and other tools for those that don’t actively remember dreams.

Over six weeks, we use exercises and explore ways to:

build our daily creative practice;
incubate and grow works of various types: art, music, writing, inventions, etc;
employ images & themes from dreams and day-dreams to spark ideas;
develop and maintain momentum for creative expression;
increase dream retention; and
playfully accept the gifts our imagination offers us

The Dream Salon Lab and Workshop is open to those actively interested in developing ideas they are currently experimenting with, igniting new ones, and engaging with the content their psyche is providing during dream and day-dream times. Creatives of all types are welcome — artists, musicians, writers, crafters, coders, inventors, filmmakers, actors, game-makers and those seeking to grow their works and their daily practice. We hope you will join us.

What to Know About the Dream Salon Experience

What We Will Be Doing:

Over the course of six weeks, we will be looking at both our dreams and our creative life and the works we create.

You don’t need to be an active dreamer (one who remembers their dreams on a regular basis) to benefit from this course, or the tools and exercises shared in it.

During each online session, we share some ideas, and then lead some hands-on activities we will do together. These include doodling, drawing, writing, reflecting, brainstorming. They work even if drawing or writing isn’t your main art-form or way you express yourself creatively.

We also include time for discussion of our dreams and our daily creative practice and works, in a supportive environment.

About this Course and the Guides

The Dream Salon Lab & Workshop was first offered in 2023. Out of its inaugural run, several creative collaborations between participants developed and an ongoing support group and mini dream salon sessions were created, to continue the work. Our Guides for this upcoming session include graduates of that initial course.

Dream Salon Guide

Carli Castellani is offering and facilitating dream labs to encourage full living creative pulse in our everyday lives. The material shared arises from her years of working with her own dream content, and her life-long focus on the transformative power of the art experience.

Hannah Kilburg

Dream Salon Guide

Hannah Kilburg started drawing and remembering dreams at about three years old. After a long hiatus from art in adulthood, the pandemic and an imaginary bird brought her back to it. She is the owner of design studio Hawk and Key, and has special interests in surface pattern design, creative collaborations, lucid dreaming, and of course, birds.

Kristen Sill

Dream Salon Guide

Kristen Sill is a creator of fun. With a background in developing games, including more than a dozen different escape room experiences, she believes playing is a key component of sparking creativity and connections. Through participating in the first Dream Salon, she was inspired to bring her experience with game creation to the forefront of her life and creative endeavors.

Some inquiries we receive and our responses:

I don’t dream or I don’t remember my dreams…

If you are interested anyhow, join us! There are some methods we can share for remembering more of your dream life, and ways one can work with dream fragments or feeling tones that may surface from your sleep, and many of these tools work for non-dreamers as well.

I have specific spiritual beliefs about my dreams and where they come from…

That is fine; for this course, we ask only that you be open and respectful to others participating. We are open to those of diverse beliefs as long as they are not evangelizing or prescribing one way, faith, or route as right. Our own take is that dreams can work and be worked with on many levels and from many different angles.

My dreams hold a lot of very personal and intimate material. I am not certain how I feel about sharing that.

Share where comfortable. Respect others sharing from their comfort zones. Cross your comfort zones where appropriate and where it offers self-growth.

I don’t have a specific creative project I am working on now… or I am in a funk…

That is fine — funks can hold great sparks if given some space for creative growth, and exploring dream content and symbols that arise from our psyche can often jump-start new ideas.
